আজ ঠাকুর রামকৃষ্ণের 187 তম জন্ম তিথি,রামকৃষ্ণের জন্মের আগে থেকেই তাঁর জন্মের নানা অলৌকিক পূর্বাভাস তাঁর পিতামাতা পেয়েছিলেন বলে শোনা যায়। ১৮৩৫ সালে রামকৃষ্ণের পিতা ক্ষুদিরাম তীর্থ ভ্রমণার্থে গয়া গমন করেন। সেখানে এক রাত্রে ঘুমের মধ্যে তাঁর স্বপ্নে আবির্ভূত হন বিষ্ণু-অবতার গদাধর। স্বপ্নেই গদাধর বলেন যে, তিনি ক্ষু‌দিরামের সন্তান রূপে অবতীর্ণ হবেন ধরাধামে। এই ঘটনার এক বছর পর আজকের পরে জন্ম হয় রামকৃষ্ণের।

ঠাকুর  রামকৃষ্ণের সারা জীবন জুড়ে রয়েছে বহু অলৌকিক ঘটনা যার উল্লেখ পাওয়া যায় কথামৃত সহ একাধিক গ্রন্থে ও ঠাকুরের পার্শদদের জবানবন্দি থেকে|

শোনা যায় পিতা ক্ষুদিরাম যখন গয়ায় তখন রামকৃষ্ণের জননী চন্দ্রাদেবী একদিন শিব মন্দিরে গিয়েছিলেন পূজা দিতে। সেখানে এক অলৌকিক অভিজ্ঞতা হয় তাঁর। তিনি প্রত্যক্ষ করেন, এক দিব্যজ্যোতি মহাদেবের শ্রীঅঙ্গ থেকে নির্গত হয়ে প্রবেশ করছে তাঁর শরী‌রে। এই ঘটনার কিছুদিন পরেই গর্ভবতী হন চন্দ্রা দেবী।পরবর্তীতে নিদ্দিষ্ট সময়ে ভূমিষ্ট হন ঠাকুর রামকৃষ্ণ |
